Microchipping FAQ’s – Q: What is a microchip? A microchip is a small (about the size of a grain of rice) permanent electronic idenification chip that is loaded with important information about your pet. The chip is implanted subcutaneously (just under the skin) between the shoulder blades at the back of your pet’s neck. >> Q: How can a microchip save my pet’s life? When an animal is submitted to a shelter or brought to any facility with microchip reading technology, one of the first steps upon the animal’s arrival is checking for a microchip. If a microchip is found the owner is immediately contacted. The return to owner rate is 20x higher if the animal has a microchip! >> Q: Does the process hurt my animal? Implanting a microchip feels no different than routine shots for your pet. In fact, the process only takes a few seconds. >> Q: Is microchipping only for dogs? Both dogs and cats can be microchipped. >> Q: How much does microchipping cost? On Thursday, June 29th from 4-7pm microchipping services are free thanks to our sponsors Datamars and the McKamey family. >> No appointment is necessary. > 4:00 pm
